Цели урока:


  • систематизация лексики по теме;
  • совершенствование устной речи учащихся по теме;


  • формирование потребностей в необходимости изучения английского языка и совершенствования своих знаний;
  • обсуждение различных причин для необходимости изучения английского языка;


  • практиковать учащихся в различных видах чтения:просмотровом, поисковом;
  • практиковать учащихся в аудировании;
  • практиковать диалогическую и монологическую речь учащихся;
  • учить работать в малых группах.

Оборудование: аудиозапись, тематические картинки, таблица с новой лексикой и грамматическими структурами, рабочая тетрадь на печатной основе, учебник “New Millennium English”.

Warming -up To raise Pp’s awareness of the English around them.

T: Imagine that you can learn lots of English words without having any English lessons. Name some of these words that everybody can understand.

To practice listening for gist and to introduce the infinitive of purpose.

T: I see you know a lot of English words and have done my quiz very well. Now, let’s think over some more information.

Pre- listening tasks.

T: What months in a year are for school?

Pp: September, October,.etc. There’re 9 months for school.

T: Are there any holidays during the school year?

Pp: Yes, there are.

T: What do you do on autumn holidays?

Pp: I go for a walk, visit my granny, play computer games… etc.

T: What do you do on winter holidays?

Pp: I go skating, skiing, ….etc

T: What do you do on spring holidays?

Pp: I read books, go to the cinema, etc.

T: What do you do on summer holidays?

Pp: I go camping; go to the country, etc.

T: Do you learn English on holidays?

Pp: sometimes, never, etc.

T: Dear students, would you ever agree to go to school in summer?

Pp: No.

T: Now, let’s listen to three children who are at school in summer.

This is an interview of students in Plymouth Summer Language School.


Interviewer: Welcome to Plymouth summer language school. Summer is the holiday season but a lot of children choose to go in summer to learn English. Why do they do that? Why do they need English? Let’s ask them. Excuse me, can I ask you a few questions?

Azuko: Yes, sure.

Interviewer: What’s your name and where are you from?

Azuko: My name is Azuko and I’m from Japan.

Interviewer: Why are you here at school in summer?

Azuko: I’m learning English and it’s a summer school.

Interviewer: Why are you learning English?

Azuko: I like playing computer games. I have a lot of friends all over the world. I write e-mails to them. I think it’s important to speak to people from different countries. I learn about different cultures. And I want to go to a college in England.

Interviewer: Thank you, Azuko. Hello, can I ask you a few questions?

Why are you here at school in summer?

Annika: My name’s Annika and I’m from Germany. When I finish school I want to go to Hollywood and to be an actress. I listen to lots of English songs. I want to know English to understand what they sing about. And I learn English at my school in Germany. It’s great because you need English everywhere.

Interviewer Thank you, Annika. Hello, can I ask you a few questions?

Why are you here at school in summer?

Sasha: My name’s Sasha and I’m from Russia. All my friends are on holiday now and I’m here at school. But I have more fun because I’m learning English and I surf the Internet a lot. There are lots of interesting websites in English about everything. And of course I need English to read my favourite books about Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes.

Interviewer: Thank you. As you see there are lots of reasons to learn English. Come to Plymouth summer language school and learn English with us!

2. Reading. To practice reading for gist.

Pre-reading tasks:

T: Say what jobs need English.

Pp: a teacher, a tour agent,… etc.

T: Do your parents speak English?

Pp: my mum does, etc.

T: Where can you speak English?

Pp: at school, at the airport, etc.

T: Do you need English?

Pp: Yes, I do…etc.


T: Read and say what job the person does: a pilot, a computer programmer, a travel agent.

(Gives new words on the blackboard: correctly, Air traffic control)

a. I’m…. I go all over the world with groups of tourists. I talk to airport, hotel and restaurant workers all over the world. I need English to travel.

b. I’m …. When I was at school I liked playing computer games. They were in English. I got interested in computers, and the computer helped me to learn English. I can’t say some English words correctly but I read English very well.

c. I’m … When I fly the plane I speak to air traffic control by radio. They speak English to me, and I speak English too. I must speak and understand English well to fly a plane.

Summing -up

Groups of three or four. To practice infinitive clauses of purpose.

T: Now, let’s make groups of three. Work in a group of three and make a list of reasons why you need English.

(Eg.: We need English to surf the Internet)

Pp: write their lists and one of them reads.

T: Let’s make a survey to find out the top reasons to learn English in our class.

(Pp walk around the class and tick the reasons they hear in their lists)

To practice speaking about reasons to learn English.

T: Sasha, ask some students in class why they are learning English.

N: I’m learning English to listen to English songs.
