Класс: 5 класс.

Тип урока: Комплексное применение знаний.

Цели урока: Формировать умение самостоятельно применять приобретенные знания для построения монологического высказывания.

Задачи урока

  • Обучающая: познакомить обучающихся с историей возникновения праздника “St. Valentine’s Day”, активизировать лексику по данной теме, формировать умение выделять главную информацию из предложенного источника (текста), адаптировать ее и использовать в собственном монологическом высказывании по заданной теме;
  • Образовательная: формировать социокультурную компетенцию;
  • Воспитательная: формировать потребность и способность к сотрудничеству и взаимопомощи при работе в группе, воспитать уважение к культуре других народов.

Знания, умения, навыки и качества, которые актуализируют/приобретут/закрепят/и др. ученики в ходе урока

  • Актуализация умения работать с текстом, выделяя необходимую ключевую информацию;
  • Развитие умения обобщать изученную информацию, находить главное и устанавливать причинно-следственные связи;
  • Приобретение новой информации социокультурного плана о странах изучаемого языка;
  • Умение использовать полученную информацию для построения собственных логичных высказываний и в письменной речи.

Необходимое оборудование и материалы: Компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, экран, тексты для чтения, магнитофон.

Ход урока

I. Warming up.

T.: Good morning, everybody! I am very glad to see you. How are you? Are you ready for the lesson. Let’s start our lesson!

T.: Look at the screen and fill in each gap with words below, remember that poem must rhyme, will you? (Слайд 2 Приложение)

  • Roses are …
  • Violets are…
  • Sugar is …
  • And so are …
  • (you, blue, red, sweet)

T.: Who is ready? Read the poem, please.

T.: Well done, thank you. These red hearts are for you.

T.: Children, what do you think what holiday is this poem about? (Обучающиеся высказывают свои предположения). Yes, you are right, it is about St. Valentine’s Day. Today we are going to read some texts about this holiday, to speak about its history and to write greeting cards, invitations and programs for St. Valentine’s Party.

II. Pre-reading.

T.: Look at the screen. What associations do you have with St Valentine’s Day? (Обучающиеся высказывают свои предположения). (Слайд 3)

T.: P1 knows the words best of all; this red heart is for you. And now you are going to work in pairs. Ask your partner about his/her favourite holidays and about some reasons why he/she likes it. (Обучающиеся работают в парах, после выполнения задания они рассказывают о любимом празднике своего партнера.)

III. While-reading.

T.: And now you will work in groups of three. I shall give you some different texts about the history of St. Valentine’s Day, and you should read the texts and match the pictures. Let’s start! (Обучающиеся выполняют задание по чтению). Who is ready? (Обучающиеся представляют свои результаты и объясняют, на что они опирались при выборе той или иной картинки).

IV. Second reading.

1) Intensive reading.

T.: Read the text again and decide if the statements after the text are true or false.

Text 1.
Some people say that Valentine was a priest in Rome many years ago. Emperor Claudius* did not want young men to marry. He wanted them to be soldiers. Young couples went secretly to Valentine and he married them. Claudius was angry and put Valentine in prison. He killed him on February 14th.

*Emperor Claudius – император Клавдий.

Decide whether the statements are true (T) or false (F):

  1. Valentine was a priest in London many years ago.
  2. Emperor Claudius wanted young men to marry.
  3. Valentine married young couples secretly.
  4. Valentine was killed on February 17th.

Text 2.
Other people say that Valentine was a Christian martyr1. While he was in prison he fell in love with the jailer’s2 daughter. When it was time for him to die, he wrote a message3 on the prison wall saying “From your Valentine”.

1 martyr – мученик
2 jailer – тюремщик
3 message – послание

Decide whether the statements are true (T) or false (F):

  1. Valentine was a Christian martyr.
  2. He fell in love with the teacher’s daughter.
  3. He wrote a message, saying “From your father”
  4. After he had left prison Valentine lived long.

Text 3.
February 14th was also a Roman holiday, held in honour of the Goddess of Love. Young men by lottery chose the name of a girl to escort to the festivities. The custom of choosing a sweetheart on this date has continued to our day. People still believe that birds pick their mates on February 14th.

Decide whether the statements are true (T) or false (F):

  1. February 14th was a holiday held in honour of the God of War.
  2. Young men chose a girl to escort to the festivities.
  3. On February 14th young people choose their sweethearts.
  4. Bird pick their mates on December 14th.
