Shchapovo is located 40 kilometers to the south of Moscow in Podolsk District. It's a picturesque place on the left bank of the river Lubyanka. For the first time the village Alexandrovo is mentioned in the Pistsovye books in 1627, which gave the evidence that this boyar estate existed in 1607 and belonged to Vasily Petrovich Morozov.

There was a version that it's name our village got by the name of one of the members of the Morozov's family. He was a boyar of the Grand Prince of Novgorod and Vladimir - Alexander Nevsky and distinguished himself at the Battle of the Neva in 1240. Such event couldn't be forgotten, especially when the glory touched their ancestor.

The owners of Shchapovo estate were the famous historical figures of Russia: the Golitsyns, the hero of the Patriotic war 1812-1814 N. Arseniev, the family of Decembrist Muraviev-Apostle, philanthropist I. Shchapov. Iliya Vasilievich Shchapov was born on the 30th of July in 1846 in Moscow. His last years he spent in his estate Alexandrovo (Shchapovo - nowadays) and earned a good memory among his descendants. In 1889 Iliya Vasilyevich Shchapov, a patron of the arts, a noble man by birth and an honorary citizen of Moscow restored his estate.

Some years ago the agricultural firm "Shchapovo" used Dutch technology for growing and storing of potatoes. There was the fur farm where silver foxes were bred.

On the territory of the estate Shchapovo you can also see many historical buildings. Shchapov redecorated the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Mother of God. He also financed the building of the stone parish school for 200 pupils and provided for it in his will. Shortly before his death in 1896 I. V. Shchapov handed Alexandrovo over to the Ministry of Farming on the condition that a primary agricultural school would be opened there. The Ministry kept its promise and agricultural school was established in 1903. On the 1st of October in 1998 the Museum of Shchapovo History was opened in the memorial building of the agricultural school. The exhibition is located in seven halls.

Our village is also famous for its trees - old-timers, the unique maple and oak.

In 1974 a new building of Shchapovo eight school was built. In 1985 the school received the status of the secondary one. Eight years later a scholarship in honor of Iliya Shchapov was established. Now our school is named in honor of Podolsky kursanties. We are proud to have the name of the heroes of that terrible war. In June our school-leavers go to the memorial to put flowers to those who gave their lives for our happiness. We have got an Organ Hall in our village. In 1989 the organ was brought to Shchapovo. It was manufactured and assembled by masters of the Czech Republic. The first concert of organ music was given on the 23d of May by the famous organist Gary Grodberg. Now you can also listen to the organ music because concerts are held every last Saturday of the month. We also have the shopping centre and the community centre. Adults and children have the opportunity to engage in various hobbies. In September 2007 we celebrated the 400th anniversary of the foundation of our lovely village. We are proud to live in Shchapovo.
