Christmas

1. Christmas is a warm thing, wrinkled or new;
A softness of lights, red green and blue.
A tingle, a tiptoe, a fire aglow
All crispy and nippy – snowflakes and snow.

2. Christmas is tinsel, a present, a tree;
A joy and laughter, a giggle of glee;
Or a quiet candle, a flicker of flame;
A whisper, a touch of soft falling rain.

3. Christmas is family, old, young, the same;
Visitors and carols again and again;
A pudding, a plump, a goose full of fat;
Smelling the stuffing of this and of that.

All: Christmas is everything, poorest or bare;
Richly ornated, embraced with care
A vision for all or one hope, set apart
A true thing, a real thing that lives in my heart.

Christmas comes around only once a year. It’s a time for us to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, to fellowship with friends and family, and a time of giving and receiving gifts. A beautiful holiday, which is loved by children and adults, when everything is decorated with lights and toys, when we see Christmas trees everywhere, when people buy presents and cook special food, send cards and have parties. And we’ll celebrate this holiday now.

Christmas in Ozland

Scene 1

Narrator: It was Christmas Eve again and Santa was about to start his journey to all children on Earth who were waiting for him. Snow was falling, it was foggy, and a cold wind was blowing from the East. Santa left his house and went to the big sleigh where the elves were working hard.

Santa: Hurry up elves! Don’t forget to put all the presents onto my sleigh. I don’t want children to be sad on Christmas Day because I couldn’t fill there stockings.

Elf: Oh, come on, Santa. You know that we’ve always been on time and that we’ve never forgotten any presents.

Santa: You are right. But I am a bit nervous tonight. It’s the weather you know. The fog is so bad that my reindeer won’t be able to find their. Even the light from my lanterns isn’t bright enough.

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen! What shall we do?

We can’t wait until the fog has cleared up again.

Elf: Hey, Santa, why don’t you take Rudolf with them?

Santa: Good idea! Rudolf’s nose is not only red- it even glows. It’s almost as bright as the moon Rudolf, with your nose so bright won’t you guide my sleigh tonight.

Rudolf: I will be your leader and the other reindeer won’t make fun of me anymore.

Narrator: And Rudolf became a guide in a reindeer team.

Scene 2

(Слышен треск, грохот, появляется Санта Клаус с поломанными санями)

Santa: Where am I? I was off on my delivery trip with presents for all the children.

Dorothy: Look! It’s Santa! What are you doing here?

Santa: Well, it seems my sleigh crashed. Rudolph’s nose was on the blink. We lost our way. All of a sudden I find myself here. I didn’t think we’ve come as far as Kansas.

Dorothy: This isn’t Kansas. It’s Ozland.

Santa: How far is it from Kansas?

Dorothy: Oh, Santa! Oz is a magical land “Somewhere over the rainbow”

Scarecrow: Well. I give up. Who is he?

Dorothy: Hi, Scarecrow. This is Santa Claus from Earth.

Scarecrow: Why is he so fat and why is he wearing that funny- looking red suit?

Santa: I don’t know myself, just a tradition, I guess.

(Входит Tinman)

Tinman: Who is this man? What is he doing here? Did he hurt you? If so I can’t help crying.

Dorothy: Oh, Tinman, don’t cry. Your oilcan is at Emerald city. You’ll surely rust.

Santa: How can that pile of tin cry?

Scarecrow: This is the Tinman. He has no heart.

Tinman: But who is he?

Scarecrow: Beats me! He crashed from some place called Earth.

Tinman: This is where Dorothy comes from. How’d he get here?

Santa: Well, I was delivering my toys…

Scarecrow: Toys? What toys? Why?

Santa: Don’t you know? It’s Christmas Eve.

Tinman: Christmas what?

Dorothy: Well, it’s a very special day. People celebrate it by decorating trees and giving gifts to their friends. Santa delivers toys to children.

Tinman: How sweet!

Scarecrow: Let’s have Christmas tree.

Santa: You’ll have it without me. I have to get back to Earth.

Dorothy: How are you going to get back?

Scarecrow: They say the Wizard of Oz can give me brains, Tinman a heart, and get Dorothy back to Kansas. Can’t he help Santa too?

Dorothy: What a good idea! Let’s all go to Wizard together.

Tinman: I need some oil and the rest of us need dressing up before we see the Wizard. We’ll meet you in a little while.

(Уходят)

Santa: Where are my Elves?

Elf: Hi, Santa! How we’ll get back to Earth?

Santa: The Wizard of Oz will help us. But where are the reindeer? Aha, here you are Rudolph.

Rudolph: You know I couldn’t help it! Not my fault you couldn’t see. All of you depend on me.

Santa: It wasn’t your fault.

Elf: Your sleigh is beyond repair.

Santa: We’ll have to depend on the Wizard. Meanwhile, the people of Oz want to have Christmas, so we’ll have plenty to keep us busy.

Scene 3

Ozman 1: Hurray, we are going to have Christmas.

Ozman 2: Santa gave us all these nice presents. What could we give him?

Ozman 1: The only thing he wants is to deliver presents to the Earth children.

Ozman 2: Yes, and our Wizard is taking care of that, we hope.

(Входит Dorothy)

Dorothy: The Wizard says we’ll have to capture the Wicked Witch of the North. So I guess we’ll never get our wishes.

Tinman: Even if she is wicked I don’t want to hurt anybody.

Scarecrow: How could we capture her, if we couldn’t find her?

Tinman: Poor Santa.

Dorothy: I am sorry, Santa, it looks hopeless. But we can go on with the Christmas right here in Oz.

Scarecrow: Great! What fun!

Santa: I guess you are right, my friends. I’ll tell the elves.

Ozman 1: And our children will also get presents?

Santa: Why not? They’ll get sweets and toys.

Ozman 2: But if Wicked Witch learns about the celebration she won’t let us have a holiday.

Santa: Nobody will bother you. Don’t worry.

Scene 4

Gertrude: Poor me. It is so boring doing nothing. Everything is quiet in Ozland. I wish I could to somewhere and spoil something, steal someone’s shoes or turn everything upside down in a house, for example.

Scratch: Oh, stop complaining, Wicked Witch. I’ve brought you a piece of good news. Do you know about Dorothy and her company walking to the Magic of Oz?

Gertrude: Yes, firstly I was a little bit afraid of her, as she killed my sister, especially after she had taken up with that stupid Scarecrow and Tinman. I expected her to be a fairy but she turned out to be an ordinary girl. Come on, Scratch, she doesn’t interest me anymore.

Scratch: Probably, when you here my news you will change your mind.

Gertrude: What else can you tell me about that girl?

Scratch: Not about the girl, but Santa Claus.

Gertrude: What? Whom are you taking about? I have never heard about such a man before.

Scratch: He’s got his sleigh crashed.

Gertrude: Sleigh crashed? What do you mean, foolish cat. Do you expect me to know about this damned sleigh?

Scratch: I don’t know for sure but he was delivering presents for children for Christmas, but his reindeer was on the blink and now they are going to celebrate Christmas here, as they got used to on Earth.

Gertrude: That’s fine! We’ll just see if they have a celebration. Well, I can see I`m not going to get much sleep tonight. My magic hat will help me.

Double, double toil and trouble!

Spoil that man with all that stubble.

Scratch: We’ll have a lot of fun. All those people bother me and I hate to see them lucky. The first thing I’ll do I will tear all the toys and throw them away.

Gertrude: Come on, Scratch. Where is my magic hat?

Scene 5

Dorothy: Look, Santa. Someone is flying. Oh, it is the Wicked Witch. I am scared.

Gertrude: Oh, hush, you silly people. Do you think I will allow you to celebrate anything here? Nobody will have a holiday. I am the Wicked Witch of the West. I will change you into little green frogs, and then you would sing your Christmas songs in a marsh.

Scarecrow: Do it right now. I’ll enjoy it greatly.

Tinman: Dorothy, don’t be afraid. I will protect you. And you, mean woman (обращается к ведьме) don’t do harm to anybody or I will kill you. (Толкает ее и у ведьмы падает шляпа)

Santa: The hat, the hat! The magic hat! (поднимает ее). But who knows how to use it?

Dorothy: I do! The Wizard says that whoever has a magic hat may make three wishes and they will come true. Oh, magic hat, I wish the Wicked Witch became a good witch!

Gertrude: No, no, I don’t want. Oh, what is happening? I am not the Wicked Witch anymore.

Scratch: Wow! She is out of her mind. I have nothing to do here and I am going to search for a new master now. (Уходит)

Ozman: Wish for a new sleigh for Santa.

Dorothy: I wish for a new sleigh for Santa.

Santa: That’s great. Thank you. But Christmas is over. It’s too late to deliver toys to children.

Gertrude: Listen! Time stops when an earth person comes to Oz. It will still be Christmas Eve when Santa returns.

All: Hooray!

Santa: We still have one wish. Let’s wish that the dreams of our friends-Tinman and Scarecrow-come true.

Tinman: What about Dorothy? She wants to go to Kansas.

Santa: Dorothy cane ride home with me.

Dorothy: Thank you, Santa. Now I will make the third wish. I wish my friends` dreams would come true.

Scarecrow: I think I can-I know I can! I can think.

Tinman: Dorothy I love you. I can feel my heart say me so.

Rudolph: Come on, Santa! We can’t wait to start pulling the new sleigh.

Santa: We are coming.

Narrator: Santa crashed into Ozland one dark night
He brought to all the folks the joy of the Christmas light.
Dorothy and her friends now take their dreams
Rudolph’s nose has made history once again it seems.
The Teddy Bears and dancing clowns
Are glad the Witch no longer frowns.
It’s once more Christmas!
Oz people laugh and dance and sing
Just near the merry voices ring!
It’s once more Christmas!

Somewhere over the rainbow Santa Claus gave the spirit of Christmas to all the Land of Oz.
