Mary Poppins: Good afternoon, dear children! Good afternoon, dear guests! Glad to see you at our New Year Party. Let me introduce myself. My name is Mary Poppins. I have got two friends. They are: Jane and Michael. Do you like to travel?

The pupils: Yes, we do.

Mary Poppins: I have a magic umbrella. Here it is. But it has no colours. Will you help me? The pupils: Yes.

Mary Poppins: You must name the colours and recite poems about colours. Then my friends will colour the umbrella and it will become magic. What colours do you know?

The pupils: Green, red, blue, white, orange, grey, yellow, brown, purple, pink.

Pupil 1:

Please, tell me
What is green?
Grass is green,
So long and clean.
What is red?
Asks little Fred.
The ball is red,
Says his brother Ted.
What is grey?
Can you say?
Yes I can.
The mouse is grey.
What is white?
I want to know.
Milk is white
And so is snow.

Pupil 2:

My kite is white
My kite is light.
My kite is in the sky.
Now left, now right.
We see the kite,
We see it, you and I.

Pupil 3:

The bear’s white,
The bird’s blue,
The dog’s black,
The puppy’s too.

Mary: And now let’s sing the song “I have many pencils”:

I have many pencils
Red and green and blue
I can draw a picture
And give it to you.
I can draw my father,
I can draw my mother,
I can draw my sister
And my little brother.

Mary: Thank you, my friends. Thank you, children.

Jane: Mary, let’s begin our journey.

Mary: All right. Children, close your eyes. Sleep. One, two, three. Fly, umbrella, with the children and me.

Children: Oh, where are we?

Michael: Mary, I think we are on a farm. Look at this man and this woman. Who are you?

McDonald: I am Mr. McDonald and this is my wife Mrs. McDonald. We live on the farm. Our farm is big. We have many friends here. We want you to guess who lives on the farm. Please, guess the riddles.

Mrs. McDonald: My first riddle is: We have got a friend. It can’t run, jump or fly. But it can swim. It likes to swim in the river. It has a long nose, a big mouth and big teeth. It is green. What is it? - (a crocodile)

A pupil:

My name is Crocodile
I am awful for a while
I am awful for a while
When I am very bad.
My name is Crocodile
I am smiling for a while
I am smiling for a while,
When I am very good.
My name is Crocodile.
I am crying for a while.
I am crying for a while.
When I am very sad
My name is Crocodile.
I am laughing for a while,
I am laughing for a while,
When I am very happy.

Mrs. McDonald: My next riddle is:

My tail is scarcely
A tail at all;
It’s white and soft
Like a cotton ball. (a hare)

Mrs. McDonald: Listen to my next riddle:

I can jump
I can run
I can play the drum
I can grin
I can mime
I can climb and cry. (a monkey)

Mrs. McDonald: My next riddle is:

I live in the river
I am not a fish.
I jump in the field,
I am not a rabbit.
I have a green coat
I am not a bird. (a frog)

Mrs. McDonald: We have got a pet. It is small. It is nice. It can’t skip. It can’t fly. But it can sing. Our pet is black or grey. Guess who it is.

We’ve got a pet.
We like to play.
We play together every day.
My pet is small.
My pet is grey
We run together every day. (a mouse)

A pupil: Creep, Mouse, Creep

Creep, mouse, creep,
Creep, mouse, creep
The old cat is asleep,
The dog’s away,
The kittens play.
Creep, mouse, creep,
Run, mouse, run,
The sleeping time is gone.
That’s cat awake
For pity’s sake
Run, mouse, run.

A pupil: I am a nice young cock.

A nice young cock
Has a bad habit.
He eats the flowers
In gardens and bowers!
A nice young cock.
A naughty young cock
He eats the flowers
In gardens and bowers.

Mrs. McDonald: My friends, let’s sing a song about our animals:

Old MacDonald has a farm
Ee – i – ee – i – oh
On his farm he has some ducks
Ee – i – ee – i – oh
With a quack, quack here
And a quack, quack there
Here a duck, there a duck
Everywhere guack, guack
Old MacDonald has a farm
Ee – i – ee – i - oh
On his farm he has some pigs
Ee – i – ee – oh
With an oink, oink here
And an oink, oink there
Here a pig, there a pig,
Everywhere hoink, hoink.
Old MacDonald has a farm
Ee – i - ee – i – oh
On his farm he has some chicks
Ee – i – ee – i – oh
With a chick, chick here
And a chick, chick there
Here a chick, there a chick
Everywhere chick, chick.
Old MacDonald has a farm
Ee – i – ee – i - oh
On his farm he has some cows
Ee – i – ee – i – oh
With a moo, moo here
And a moo, moo there
Here a cow, there a cow
Everywhere moo, moo.

Mary Poppins: Thank you children. Thank you, animals. Let’s continue our journey. Go to sleep. One, two, three. Fly, umbrella, with the children and me.

Jane: Wake up, children/

Michael: Oh, it’s becoming cold. Do you know where we are?

Jane: Everything is white here. It is very cold. Snow is everywhere. I think it’s Lapland – the motherland of the New Year.

Michael: Mary, the children know a lot of poems and songs about winter and New Year. Let’s listen to them.

Pupil 1 The Grand New Year.

It’s coming, boys,
It’s almost here,
It’s coming, girls.
The grand New Year
A year to be glad in.
Not to be sad in.
A year to live in.
To gain, to give in.
It’s coming, boys,
It’s almost here.
It’s coming, girls,
The grand New Year!

Pupil 2

New Year’s Day, happy day.
We are all glad and very gay.
We all dance and sing and say:
“Welcome, welcome, New Year’s day”

Pupil 3

Around the New Year Tree
Singing, dancing merrily
Round the New Year Tree
Merrily, merrily, merrily
Round the New Year Tree.
Happy New Year, my friends,
Happy New Year today,
Let us dance hand in hand
I will show the way.

Pupil 4

We make a snowman
Big and round, big and round.
We put the snowman
On the ground, on the ground.

Pupil 5

Let us dance together
Give your hand to me.
We will make a circle.
Dancing merrily.
Listen to the music
What a happy sound!
Let us sing together
As we dance around.

Pupil 6

Sing a song of winter
Be happy and gay
Dance around the snowman
Come out and play.

Pupil 7

The day is so clear
The snow is so white
The sky is so bright
We shout with all might:
A happy New Year.

Pupil 8 New Year.

New things to learn,
New friends to meet,
New songs to sing,
New joys to greet,
New things to hear,
New things to do
In this glad New Year.

Mary Poppins:

Children, let’s sing the song “Jingle, Bells”.
Jingle, Bells, jingle, bells,
Jingle all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh,
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Jingle, Bells, jingle, bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Mary Poppins: Thank you, dear children. Our journey is over. We must return. Children, go to sleep. One, two, three. Fly, umbrella, with the children and me. Good bye! See you next year.
