Тема: English idioms and their Russian equivalents.

Основные задачи урока:

  • Формирование у учащихся интереса к культуре изучаемого языка.
  • Воспитание культуры общения и потребности в практическом использовании языка в различных сферах деятельности (в том числе и идиом).
  • Развитие языковых, интеллектуальных и познавательных способностей, ценностных ориентаций, чувств и эмоций ученика.

Цели:

  • Научить правильно понимать и употреблять некоторые из английских идиом, собирать необходимую информацию из различных источников.
  • Активизировать употребление в речи различных грамматических структур, содержащихся в идиоматических выражениях.

Оборудование: учебники, справочники, книги для чтения, словари, цветные картинки, рисунки учащихся с различными ситуациями.

ХОД УРОКА

I. Организационный момент

Teacher: Dear friends! Today we are going to have a very interesting lesson-exploration of connection between Russian and English idioms. To do this we’ll revise our knowledge of some of them and make up the suitable situations to check up our understanding and correct usage of these idioms.

II. Фонетическая и речевая зарядка

Teacher: Let’s repeat the most familiar expressions. Which of them are formed with the verb to be?

P1: to be wide of mark
P2: to be afraid of one’s one shadow
P3: to be behind the times
P4: to be all ears etc.

– With the verb to go?

P1: to go down in history
P2: to go for a song
P3: to go halves
P4: to go into details
P5: to go one’s own way etc. with the verb to have etc.

III. Основная часть урока. Развитие монологической и диалогической деятельности

Teacher: How clever of you to have remembered so many English idioms. As you know not all of them are easy to translate. Can you remind me any of them? If you can, please make up the situation which well help us to understand their meaning.

P1: an Indian summer: a period of great happiness that comes late in a person’s life or a period of warm weather in autumn.
P2: to wear the trousers: to be the person in a relationship who has the most control and makes of the decisions: who wears trousers in your house?
P3: come what may be! Despite anything that may happen.
P4: to be in another’s shoes: if somebody failed his examination, nobody would like to be in his shoes.
P5: as the crow flies: in a strait line: we’re only 10 miles away as the crow flies, but it’s an hour’s drive by road.
P6: flavour of the month: something or someone that is very popular for only a short time: she is very mach flavour of the month in Hollywood.
P7: a dog in the manger: a person who refuses to let another enjoy what he himself has no use for.
P8: dot the i’s and cross the t’s: to finish the final details in something such as a plan or contract.

IV. Закрепление ранее изученного материала

Учащиеся получают карточки с вариантами предложений, в которые нужно вставить подходящие по смыслу идиоматические выражения, варианты которых приведены ниже:

V. Заключительная часть урока. Подведение итогов

Teacher: we are finishing now. Let’s listen to some other famous English idioms.

P11: have a lump in one’s throat
P12: have one’s heart in the right place
P13: no picnic
P14: make someone blush
