Разделы: Иностранные языки

  5. To bring up the students to be patient to other people's tastes and habits.

Equipments and Sources:

Tape recorder, tasks, textbooks (English VIII, Safonova V.V.), and additional texts for role-playing.

Steps:

1. Warming Up:

The first impression we make almost fully depends on what we wear and how we wear it. Manners and speech are noticed next and character only later. So to present yourself skillfully is a talent. It's helpful to have some clothes sense to know and feel the types of things that are your style. Clothes add to your appearance, so to be a little bit different from the rest you should adapt the fashion to your personality. Can you share this opinion or not? Try to complete the statement on the BB.

2. Speech Drills:

Let us speak about clothes young people prefer wearing, trends popular among teens.

a. Tell what things you have in your wardrobe.

b. Imagine that you're going to a disco party; tell what items of clothing
you'll choose. Complete the sentences on the blackboard.

"If I am going to a disco party, I"ll "

"If I am going to a pop concert, I'll "

"If I am going to a formal dinner, I"ll "

c. Characterize in one word your clothes style. Start with the words:
"I prefer "

d. It you are buying a thing and choosing among the materials, what would
you choose: velvet, suede, corduroy, leather, cotton or silk.

e. What patter of the fabric would you choose?

3. Listening:

Some people say: "Fashion is my passion" and others say: "I don't care what I wear", and consider fashion is not important. Listen to four people talking about their dress style. Be ready to complete the sentences, tell about the teens (for the tasks see the supplement). (The students listen to the tape two times and fulfill the tasks.)

Can you say that somebody's way of dressing is close to you?

4. Speaking:

Nowadays shops are full of different clothes designed specially for teens, clothes by famous courtiers. There are a lot of trends. What makes you choose this or that item, outfit?

Look at the list of factors and choose the top three factors for you. Explain your choice. (For the list of factors see the supplement.)

5. Reading and Discussing:

Shopping for many people is the most favourite pastimes. Do you do shopping often? Read the text in your textbook and answer the questions. (The students work with the exercise from the textbook. Ex 14, p 130, English VIII, Safonova V. V.) (The teacher asks the questions.)

  1. Does Hannah spend many hours shopping?
  2. What shops does she usually go to?
  3. What colours does she prefer?
  4. Does Hannah share the opinion that sportswear is not tidy?
  5. What are her favorite items?

6. Speaking:

After listening to the teens, reading about Hannah's ideas what would you say about English teens in general.

Clothes seem to be like food: "Tastes differ." Discuss in group your ideas how to look cool and in two minutes present them.

7. Role- play:

The world of fashion is glamorous, is not it? A lot of people are involved in designing, sewing, presenting clothes at the cat work. What are these occupations called? Would you like to become a part of this world of fashion? (The students answer the questions.)

It is always interesting to know about well-known people, whom we see on the TV screen every day. What is jet life like inside? This young designer has agreed to have a press conference with you and answer your questions. Don't loose your chance to ask questions.

(The students role-play a press conference and some students show the clothes, they have designed for the lesson, like at the catwalk) We always dream about the things we do not have and have not tried, about the places we have not visited. Has your opinion about attractive life of a model changed? (The students express their views.)

8. Finishing the lesson:

It is time to finish the lesson. In what way would you complete the statement from the blackboard now?

***What can you say about the lesson and your participation in it?
