- Now let’s guess the holidays. Listen to the cassette:

1. It’s a day of love and friendship. We send greeting cards to our sweethearts and friends and ask them to: “Be my Valentine”. We celebrate this holiday on February, 14. (Valentine’s day)

2. The week before this holiday we color eggs. It’s celebrated on a Sunday in April or May. (Easter)

3. It is the start of a new year. Americans celebrate this holiday on the first day of January, but the celebration actually begins on December 31, New Year Eve, the night before this holiday. (New Year’s day)

4. It is one of the best holidays for children. Children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches and skeletons. The children walk door to door in the neighborhood and shout “trick or treat!”. Most people give them a treat- candy or fruit. The symbol of this holiday is jack-o-lantern. Jack-o-lantern are pumpkins we carve to look like faces. (Halloween)

5. It’s a family holiday. People gather to give thanks for all the good things in our lives. They make a big turkey dinner. (Thanksgiving day)

6. It is a religious holiday. It is the day that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. American people decorate a tree with ornaments and lights. Santa Claus visits people in this day and bring presents in bright paper and ribbons. (Christmas)

- Choose a holiday and congratulate your friend with this holiday. You can make a little card with wishing success. (учащиеся делают небольшие открытки с поздравлениями и затем зачитывают их и дарят). Hear you can see the examples:

All the best!/ I wish you the best of everything!

Good luck!

I wish you every success!

I wish you health, wealth and happiness!

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Be my Valentine!

Wishing you all the joy and wonder of the first Christmas.

Have a nice holiday!

May your holidays be wrapped with joy and filled with happy surprises!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you!

- Oh, you are the creative people. Everyone knows there are many songs about the holidays. Let’s sing one of the most popular songs “Jingle bells”:

(James Pierpont. publ.1857)

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight, O
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh (repeat)
A day or two ago,
I thought I'd take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upsot.O
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
O What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh. (repeat)
A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away, O
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
O What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh. (repeat)
Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
Two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead, O
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells,
Jingle all the way!
O What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

- Your homework is to write the essay “My favorite holiday”. Thank you for your work. The lesson is over. Good bye.
