Teacher: We have learned the words and now tell me the IT- programs connected with your profession and write down these programs.

Students do the task.

Teacher: Students, let's play a game. We should be divided into three groups. Do you remember your previous home task to find out when the domestic electrical supplies were first invented into mass production and by whom?

Team work - questions for the opponents.

Instruction: First of all, give the name of each team, try to choose one or two judges, who will point scores to the team. For the right answer the team has one score, if the team doesn't know the answer then the other team has the right to answer. For example, from card for Team 1, the student from this group reads the first question to the team 2, if this team doesn't answer, turn to the team 3. If the team 3 fails, the student should read the correct variant. The second student from the team 1 asks question 1a. Only after asking all questions from number 1, the other team - Team 2 will ask questions to Team 3 beginning with number 1.

Card for Team 1

1. This supply helps you to froze your products. What is this? (ANSWER -Refrigerator)

1a. Who invented this supply? (ANSWER- In 1899 the American inventor Albert Marshall patented the domestic fridge. After the first use of the electric engine, the inventor-chemists Thomas Mendgly created freon, and since 1930 the era of modern fridge began)

2b. When was it appeared first? (ANSWER - in 1924, in 1940, dryers were added to the design.)

Teacher: Thank you, students. You show the brilliant knowledge. And now let's read the text about IT-programs for electricians.

Task 4. Read the text about IT-programs for electricians and ask two questions to the opponents:

Programs for electricians are computer-aided design systems in the field of electronics and electrical engineering used by specialists for drawing up electrical circuits, performing calculations, as well as creating detailed drawings of any complexity, storing data in package folders. Software facilitates helps to work, accelerate, automate the technological process, increases labor efficiency.

In the process of professional activity, electricians have to:

  • calculate the cross-section (сечение) of the wire, the amount of the main or consumable material;
  • determine the power of the electric drive (электропривод), the nominal value of the current and other parameters;
  • design grounding (заземление), wiring in a residential building, industrial premises;
  • do tracing of electronic boards (делать трассировку электронных плат).

Popular programs are "Electrician" for PC, "Mobile Electrician" for tablets, smartphones with an intuitive [ɪn'tjuːɪtɪv] (наглядный) interface. The training does not take much time.

ELCUT, Mathcad, sPlan, AutoCAD are considered the most popular. The programs have proven themselves well among users and contain useful options.

sPlan is a program for drawing electronic circuits. This program developed since the early 2000s by the German company ABAKOM. The package includes a graphic editor, a text module, libraries with ready-made electrical components. The library block can be expanded - supplemented with its own templates (шаблон).

AutoCAD

The world leader in the development and supply of software for the design of facilities, the manufacture [mæ̱njʊfæ̱ktʃə] of machine-building, welding structures, electrical equipment is Autodesk, based in California, USA. The automated system is capable of creating 2-, 3-dimensional drawings. Based on it, the AutoCAD Electrical supplement has been released - an extended version for electrical engineers who are engaged in electronic product modeling.

NanoCAD

This program is developed on the basis of Russian standards, constructed for the design of power electrical equipment (мощного силового оборудования), outdoor / indoor electric lighting. A special Open BIM (***Building Information Model- объектно-ориентированная модель) tool allows you to embed (встраивать) the created electrical network into the model of the projected object on any BIM platform. The process is carried out by exporting to exchange files of the IFC standard.

"The Electrician" is the Intelligent System program - an assistant in solving simple and complex problems in the field of electronics. It allows you to determine:

  • the power of an electrical device;
  • consumed, rated current;
  • short circuit current;
  • voltage losses in the power grid;
  • cable cross-section;
  • number of conductors.

Teacher: you have just read about the IT-programs. What program do you use in your study and work?

And now let's read interesting facts about the electricians and write the main professional skills.

Task 5. Some interesting facts

1. The Skilled electricians are trained almost as much as doctors

There is no right for mistakes in this field of extremely dangerous electrical work. Like doctors, electricians must be well trained to be able to diagnose electrical problems and find the optimal solution for each problem.

2. Electricians should be able to pass a color perception test

Not many people know this, but to work with electricity, it is very important to distinguish colors well. Often the only way to determine the difference between several types of wiring is to apply a color-coded system, which a person working with electrical wiring will not be able to do without color vision.

3. Electricians have a wide range of services

For example, repair and installation of electrical systems of houses and organizations is the main activity of electricians. Most electricians are specialists in electrical engineering or maintenance, but more and more specialists are becoming generalists, providing a wider range of services

4. Many celebrities were electricians

Many electricians have a lot of talents, and some of them stopped their electrical career and went to capture TV screens. Elvis Presley started training as an electrician and, as you know, he said that at some point he got confused (запутался). Rowan Atkinson, now known as Mr. Bean, has a master's degree in electrical engineering, which he received at Oxford, and Alfred Hitchcock also studied engineering from the age of 15. George Harrison of The Beatles also trained as an electrician. Although, he admits that he did not succeed at all in this field.

5. Experienced electricians are also security professionals

6. Problem solving is part of an electrician's job

7. An electrician must have a large set of skills

8. Electricians need appropriate clothing and tools

9. Increasing the number of jobs for electricians

As long as we depend on electricity for many of our needs and activities, there will be a need for qualified and experienced electricians.
