When people go on holiday, they prefer not to stay at home. They move away to go travelling. We have many cold wet days here in Russia so most tourists choose a beach holiday near the sea to swim, sunbathe and get suntanned in a warm country. Children don't like long flights across the ocean, they prefer places closer to home in Europe, Turkey, Egypt. A walking holiday is very pleasant, there are lovely forests, fields, rivers and lakes round Moscow but if it's a two-three day hike you must make sure the weather is going to be fine. Adventure holidays are mostly popular with teens. Yet I don't think many of them are organized by travel agencies.
The holidays I like best are beach holidays and sightseeing tours. A beach holiday is always perfect if you enjoy swimming, diving, lying in the sun. As for a walking tour with a tour guide we always learn a lot about the sights, a guide tells us interesting stories and shows us beautiful things.
People use different means of transport when they go travelling. The fastest and most convenient is a plane but planes are often delayed due to bad weather, airports are often crowded. Travelling by train can be slow and tiring if you go to a far away city. A car is good if the traffic isn't very heavy and you don't get stuck in a jam. When you travel by car you can stop wherever you want and go on a walking tour.
There are things which are necessary to take when we go travelling. A backpack to pack things and comfortable walking shoes are very important. I always take a map and a guidebook with me not to get lost in a new place. A baseball cap protects your face from the sun.
