Т: Good morning dear friends. Today the theme of our lesson is the Limerick. What is a limerick? Do you know? Is it interesting for you to get to know about it? Today we shall have a limerick-competition and do different tasks in groups so that to learn about limericks. I believe that this work can help students to deepen and to widen the knowledge about limericks.

IV: What is a Limerick? (Текст для аудирования c опорой на слайды.)

Прослушать рассказ учителя о лимерике и его структуре: описать лимерик по опорной схеме.

1. It is the name of one of the most famous towns in Ireland.

2. Limerick took its name from the county of Limerick in Ireland.

3. So we can say that The Motherland of Limericks is ... Ireland!

4. I’d like to call your attention to this man: Edward Lear.

In the 19th century he was a famous English poet. He was actually a painter, he drew pictures for verses. So it seems strange he began to write nonsense.

But in the 19th century this verse form was popularized by Edward Lear, the father of English 'Nonsense'.

The first complete book of limericks was called… “A book of Nonsense”.

“A book of Nonsense” was published in 1846. There were 72 limericks in two volumes.

He made limericks popular in the 19th century.

A limerick is a short funny poem. It has five lines. A limerick is not just a short poem; the form of a limerick is always the same. The first line rhymes with the second one. The third rhymes with the fourth one. The first and the second lines rhyme with the fifth line. Lines three and four are shorter than the other lines. A limerick usually begins with "there was a ...”.

V. Read.

VI. Analise.
