В «Концепции профильного обучения на старшей ступени общего образования» отмечается, что «реализация идеи профилизации обучения ставит выпускника основной школы перед необходимостью совершения ответственного выбора — предварительного самоопределения в отношении профилирующего направления собственной деятельности».
Наша школа реализует социально-экономическое профильное направление для обучающихся старших классов. В рамках предпрофильной подготовки спектр элективных курсов для 9 классов разнообразен, поддерживает профильное направление старшей школы.
Я преподаю элективный курс для 9 классов «Деловой английский» на основе учебного пособия “Business and Commerce Workshop”, Neil Wood, OXFORD University Press, 2003. Целью курса является ознакомление обучающихся с несколькими темами профильного элективного курса для 10-11 классов «Деловой английский».
Межпредметный пробный элективный курс «Деловой английский» рассчитан на 8 (10 – для 3 четверти) часов. (Приложение 1). Ознакомление обучающихся с курсом проходит в апреле, включает в себя электронную презентацию (Приложение 2) и рекламный листок. (Приложение 3). Курс направлен на развитие коммуникативной компетенции обучающихся в образовательной сфере «Деловой английский язык».
При условии выбора профильного курса «Деловой английский» для 10-11 классов, он включает в себя 24 раздела. (Приложение 4)
Обучая 9-классников пробному элективному курсу «Деловой английский», я предоставляю им возможность осуществить профильную пробу - создать значимый продукт, имеющий профильное содержание. Написание своего резюме на английском языке позволяет обучающимся оценить свои реальные возможности и интересы к обучению курса в рамках профиля.
В рамках работы в городском методическом объединении учителей иностранного языка в прошлом учебном году я подготовила краткий обзор элективного курса с электронной презентацией. (Приложение 5)

Panoramic review of teaching the elective course “Business English”

Good afternoon! Glad to see you!
Today I’m starting the practical part of our seminar. In this part, according to the
programme, you are going to see a panoramic review of the elective course “Business
English”.
I’ve been teaching this course since 2007. “Business and commerce” by Neil Wood,
published by Oxford University Press is a basic textbook. There are two different copies
of this elective course for the students of the 9th and the 10th forms. I’m going to
introduce you a shorter copy for the pre-profile training.
I am given on an average 8 hours to teach it and I divide it into three modules. Every
module corresponds to one unit of the textbook.
- Live to work or work to live?
- Jobs in an organization.
- Writing a CV.
In every unit there are some key words and I ask students to look them up in a
glossary, the words are defined in English. Usually in the first lesson we define the
words ‘busy’, ‘business’, ‘businessman’, ‘businesswoman’. (you can look
them up on page 34).
In the slide-show you can see the key words and questions for warming-up and discussion of
the first unit. I asked two of my students to tell you about the first theme “Live
to work or work to live?”

In the unit “Jobs in an organization” the students are asked first of all about the people who work in school, e.g. the teachers, the administrators.
- What are they responsible for? (students’ possible answers: for students’ knowledge, for their life, their health, education or educational background)
- Who are they responsible to? (students’ possible answers: teachers- to students, their parents on one hand, to the administrators and authorities on the other).
Have a look at the slide, please! Here you see a list of the key words and expressions
of this unit. (e.g.‘in charge of’ = is a synonym to the expression ‘to be
responsible for’). Discussing the organigram of our school students describe
responsibility of the teachers, the administrators, think over different things.
After studying the 3d unit students are offered to write a CV.
To sum up, I’d like to say that I try to do my best to make students think about goals of their life. I use “Business English” as a means to let them share their opinions and I usually give them a chance to do it either in English or in Russian. I’ve got a strong belief that thought - provoking elective course “Business English” is closely connected with life spheres to help students think about their future life and future profession.
